Barclays Churchill Cup - June 7th 2008

Twin Elm Rugby Park has been selected as the host venue for the first of three double header games as part of the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup, an international rugby tournament staged in Canada and the US and contested by six international teams. The tournament is being held from 7th - 21st June 2008 with the pool stages in Ontario and the finals in Chicago, Illinois.

This will be the 6th Churchill Cup to be held following the inaugural matches held in Vancouver in the summer of 2003. This tournament is part of a three way alliance between England, Canada and the USA aimed at growing and developing the sport of rugby union across North America. The tournament is vital to the growing success of rugby in Canada and the US as it provides high level competition for the players as well as development opportunities for officials. It also gives spectators a chance to watch international rugby in North America.

Teams are invited to join the three alliance countries (England, Canada and the USA). In recent years Argentina and the New Zealand Maori have participated. In 2008 Canada, USA, England Saxons (the A team), Scotland A, Ireland A and one more team to be confirmed will be participating. The games on June 7th which will be held at Twin Elm will see Canada versus Scotland A and the USA playing against the England Saxons.
