EORU U17 Women Win Silver at Summer Games

Posted: August 26th, 2010
This years’ edition of the EORU Junior Women’s team have completed their 2010 campaign, culminating in a silver medal win at the Ontario Summer Games in Sudbury, Ontario in mid-August.

The 2010 Junior Women’s team started try-outs in mid-June and the final roster was represented by players from several EORU member clubs, including the Barrhaven Scottish, Kingston Panthers, Ottawa Banshees, Ottawa Coven, Ottawa Indians, Ottawa Irish, and Upper Ottawa Valley Lumberjacks.

The EORU Junior Women participated in the National Capital Youth Rugby Festival in July, ending the two day tournament with 3 wins and a draw, tying Outaouais for top honours. Next up was an exhibition in late July against a strong Ontario U16 team. Although the EORU side was unable to secure a win, their strong play and excellent communication laid the groundwork for a strong team selected to travel to the 2010 Ontario Summer Games.

At the Summer Games, the EORU Junior Women took a 2 – 1 round robin record into the semi-finals,
winning a close game versus the Southwest Rugby Union 10 – 7. The final featured the EORU team against the TRU representative. Despite leading at the half, the EORU team were unable to hold on and lost 26 – 12, having to settle for the well-deserved silver medal.

On behalf of the entire coaching staff and management team, thank you to all of the players who took time out of their busy EORU league schedules to represent the EORU Junior Women’s team. A special word of thanks to all of the parents who lent their support to the players and team throughout the season.
